5 Best TV Series Inspired by Books

Hello there! We’ve always been in between this conversation of which is better- the book or the movie or series? Here is a list of 5 best TV series inspired by books.

  1. Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

This is one book that was a hit as a television series. People couldn’t stop talking about it and couldn’t keep from spoiling it for others as well. This series went on for eight seasons and was created by David Benioff and D B Weiss for HBO. It was majorly adapted from the book The Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R Martin. There were quite a few differences between the series and the book but people claimed that the end of the series was, however, not so satisfactory.

  1. Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar

This drama television series casting Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley and Chace Crawford was created by Josh Scwartz and Stephanie. The six seasons of this series were surely a hit to all the fans. The juicy stories of the Upper East Siders never bored any of the viewers and not to mention the turn of events.

But the series was nothing like the book in most case scenarios. Dan and Serena barely seemed to have a relationship in the books. And here is your shocker, there was no relationship between Chuck and Blair at all! I am sure we all adored that couple somewhere sometime. But yes, it didn’t exist in the books. There are more such turn of events however, the series didn’t fail to be a hit!

  1. You by Caroline Kepnes

One spine thrilling show we all didn’t miss on Netflix should’ve been You. It was created by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble. You definitely kept us hooked throughout the quarantine season. This book has a sequel named Hidden Bodies which is the inspiration for the second season of the series. But it seems like there were many differences from the book and the stories itself. The book didn’t involve a few characters like Claudia, Annika, Raj and even Paco, who kind of brought the series’ climax together. Also, the book seemed to have major backstories of Candace and Mr. Mooney.

  1. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

A series where time travel meets romance is inspired from a series of books. This is one of the most famous historical fiction shows that we’ve ever seen. Ronald D Moore developed this series and the series has definitely been a heart gripping one. The main plots of the series seem to be closely revolving the story of the books. Except, there were trivial changes and one character remained alive in spite of his death in the books.

  1. The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

An award winning show that tells us about the dystopian America where handmaids were assigned to get pregnant and bear children for ruling elites. One book that was outright was made into a series by Bruce Miller. Both the book and the tv show seem to have a wide range of fans but like all series do, this has its own style and storyline that differs from the book itself. One major difference happens to be Serena’s absence in the book with Nick and Offred having their first scene together. And the book is very vague about Nick’s true feelings and we rather get to see lots of Offred’s inner thoughts. The details of Luke and June are also not prevalent in the book. Either ways, the two seemed to have reached their own positions and have them secured as well.

So that was my short list of Best TV Series Inspired by Books. Hope you enjoyed it. Keep watching out for more content.
