To Lara Jean Song, P. S. I Love You

“......but if this wasn't what he wanted then why did he come to the field of desire? It was fated that we shouldn't meet like this.”

You're damn right Lara Jean, it was fated that we definitely shouldn't meet like this. We had to meet when I was reading "To All The Boys I've Loved Before" — not when I was watching it. However, we met again; and that is something I appreciate.

To All The Boys I've Loved Before

Dear Lara Jean Song Covey,

I see so much of me in you, with a floral scrunchie and the best outfits ever. I am exactly like you, I love literature and I want to pursue it not because I can’t do anything else but because of my love for it. I have had so many boys (and girls) I’ve loved before. I love writing letters — so here’s one for you.

Your feelings are so real, so raw. All these years that I spent growing up, I have come to realize that we can’t ever force ourselves to feel a certain way. We can be jealous, we can be petty, we can be harsh to the people around us, we can be angry, we can ruin things and still be human. Thank you, for reminding me that I don't have to talk about things that upset me but it's not whatever.

Letter writing in itself is an act of love but sending it out? That is more than just an act. It takes so much courage to let the other person know what is going on in your head. I understand why you never sent out those letters. I'm certain you didn't see where your letters could take you. Oh, all the boys you’ve loved before. What I learned from your letters was the power of letters, and addressing them to someone. They taught me the immense possibilities of writing. Of conveying our feelings.

You made me believe in love all over again, LJ. The way you held yourself, remained invisible as you thought you were, capable of anything and everything. You have an ocean for a heart, and I swear I'd give anything to become you. Or maybe not, actually. Another thing I have learned from your letters is how interesting and unique every single letter is. Similarly, I am just as interesting and unique. I am exactly like you but I do not need to become you. This letter to you is basically me trying to metaphorise myself as a letter.

Often I lie awake and wonder what it would be like to have it all figured out. It took you a while but you figured it out. You ran, powered through, and you shone. I am on my track as well. I'll get there with you. LJ, you're so inspirational, you make things easier for me by going through them before me. I know what to do next because you've already done it. Every time I have to make a big decision, I think about what you would do if you were in my situation. Thank you for showing me the way.
