Karl Marx is perhaps one of the most well-known names in the world of social and political philosophy. His ideas served as a foundation for modern communism. Marx believed that capitalism would inevitably result in a conflict between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. Capitalism produced internal tensions like all previous socioeconomic systems and he predicted that this would lead to its destruction.

'Das Kapital' is a distillation of thirty years worth of study of the capitalist mode of production. Marx wrote a bulk of this text while he was in exile in London and finally published the first volume of the book in 1867. The other volumes were published by Freidrich Engels, Marx's co-author and collaborator, after his death in 1883. He critiques the economic patterns underpinning the capitalist mode of production juxtaposed against classical political economists such as John Stuart Mill, Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Edmund Burke. 'Das Kapital' is in many ways the precursor of the political and economic systems that were prevalent during the twentieth century. Freidrich
Engels described "Das Kapital' as 'the Bible of the Working Class'. It is celebrated as one of the most influential works of modern times
